Knowing what you do is easy. Explaining it clearly on a website can be surprisingly difficult. You know your business inside out, but that doesn't always make it easy to write about it. What should you say on your homepage? How much detail do people need? What should you put on your services pages? I can help you turn what you know into clear, useful website content that sounds like you.
Your website doesn't need pages and pages of clever marketing copy. It needs to tell people what you do, who you help and why they should choose you. Most importantly, it needs to answer the questions your potential customers actually have. I'll help you make your content:
Clear and easy to understand
Relevant to your customers
Structured so people can find what they need
Consistent across your website
Appropriate for your business and your audience
Written in a natural, human voice
No corporate waffle. No unnecessary jargon. No trying to make your business sound like something it isn't.
That's fine - you don't necessarily need to start again. If you've already written your website content, I can review it and suggest improvements. Sometimes that means a few small changes to make something clearer. Sometimes a page needs restructuring.
And occasionally I'll tell you that what you've already written is perfectly good. The aim isn't to change things for the sake of it, it's to make sure your website says what it needs to say.
I can help with that too. I'll start by understanding your business, what you offer and who you're trying to reach. From there I can help create content for things such as:
Homepage copy
About pages
Service and product pages
Local business pages
Landing pages
FAQs
Calls to action
Blog or news content
Website introductions and descriptions
You don't need to give me a perfectly written brief. Just tell me what you do. I'll ask the questions I need to fill in the gaps.
There's a temptation to make every business website sound the same. You know the sort of thing:
"We are passionate about delivering innovative solutions that empower our clients..."
It might sound professional. It also doesn't tell anyone very much. Your website should sound like your business and speak to your customers in a way that feels natural. I'll help you find that tone rather than giving you generic marketing copy.
Good website content and good SEO usually work well together. Your content should make it clear what you do, where you operate and who you're trying to help. It should also use the language your customers actually use when they're looking for your services.
But that doesn't mean stuffing keywords into every paragraph. I'll write for people first and make sure the content is structured in a way that makes sense for search engines too. If you need more help with search visibility, you can find out more about my SEO services.
If I'm building your website, I can help with the content as part of the project. You don't have to arrive with every page already written. I'll help you work out what information you need, what your customers need to know and how it should be organised.
If you've got rough notes, old website copy, a Word document or simply a head full of ideas, that's enough to get started.
You don't need a new website to improve your content. If your existing site is looking a little dated, your services have changed or the wording simply isn't doing your business justice, I can help refresh it. Sometimes changing the words is all a page needs.
Other times, improving the content might highlight other changes that would make the website work better too. If you're not sure, I can take a look.
The best website content doesn't sound as though it came from a marketing department. It sounds like a real business talking to real customers - that's what I'm aiming for. Clear, useful and human.
If you're struggling to write your website, or you're wondering whether your existing content could be better, get in touch.
You can send me what you've got, even if it's rough. We'll work out what needs doing from there.
No need to find the right words before you get in touch. That's what I'm here for.
