I like to keep pricing simple. Before I start building anything, we'll have a chat about what you need, agree what we're going to do and agree the price. That means you know what you're getting, what it will cost and what happens next. No mysterious day rates. No surprise invoices. No starting a project before we've agreed what we're doing.
We'll talk through your business, what you want your website to do and what your customers need from it.
I'll suggest the simplest solution that I think will do the job.
That might be a straightforward Google Sites website. It might be WordPress. It might be something else.
And if I think you don't actually need something I've suggested, I'll tell you.
Once we've agreed the scope of the project, I'll confirm the price with you before any build work starts.
Once we've agreed the scope and price, I'll create a mock-up of the homepage.
This gives us something real to look at before I start building the rest of the website.
We'll check things such as the overall layout, look and feel, colours, fonts and how your content will be presented.
It's much easier to make changes at this stage than after the whole website has been built.
Once we're both happy with the direction, we're ready to build.
At this point, I'll send you an invoice for 50% of the agreed project price.
Once that's paid, I'll get on with the build.
The remaining 50% isn't due until the website is finished and ready to go live.
So you're not paying the full amount up front.
With the design agreed, I'll get on with building your website.
You'll have opportunities to review the work as we go, and I'll let you know if I need anything from you.
I'll also make sure the agreed scope is delivered and the website is ready for launch.
If you decide you want something significantly different from what we originally agreed, that's fine too. I'll simply explain whether it will affect the price or timescale before doing the extra work.
No surprises.
When the website is finished and you're happy with it, it's time to go live.
I'll make the final checks, get everything ready and launch the website.
That's when the remaining 50% balance becomes due.
I like to think of this as handing you the keys.
The website is yours, it's live and you're ready to get on with running your business.
I'll also show you anything you need to know about managing the site yourself, depending on the platform we've used.
And if you'd rather leave the updates and technical stuff to me, that's fine too.
Small changes and refinements are part of building a website.
That's why I show you the homepage design before I start the main build, and why you'll get opportunities to review things as we go.
If you decide to change the agreed scope — for example, adding several new pages or asking for functionality we hadn't discussed — I'll tell you what that means for the cost and timescale before I do the extra work.
You won't suddenly receive a bigger bill without knowing about it.
MadeByCoast is the trading name I use for my web design and SEO work.
The business behind MadeByCoast is Salt and Code Ltd.
Your invoices and payments will therefore come from Salt and Code Ltd, and any formal agreement for your project will be with that company.
It might say Salt and Code Ltd on the paperwork, but you're still dealing directly with me.
Tell me.
I work with small businesses, sole traders and organisations, so I know that every project has a budget.
There may be ways to simplify the website, reduce the scope or use a different platform to keep the cost sensible.
I'd rather help you find something that works within your budget than sell you a website you don't need.
And if I think you can do something yourself and save the money, I'll tell you that too.
1. We talk
You tell me what you're trying to achieve.
2. We agree
We agree the scope and price.
3. I mock up the homepage
You get to see the direction before the main build starts.
4. You pay 50%
Once you're happy with the direction, the first 50% gets the build underway.
5. I build it
We review things as we go.
6. I hand over the keys 🔑
Once you're happy and the website is ready to go live, the remaining 50% is due.
Simple as that.
I want you to know what you're paying for and why.
If something can be done more simply or more cheaply, I'll say so.
And if there's something you want to do that isn't included in the original scope, I'll explain the options before you commit to anything extra.
If you've got a website project in mind, let's have a chat.
